I’m at that time in my life where my friends are getting married, having babies, settling down, ☺ something I should probably be considering as well. My best friend’s sister was expecting her first child in Goa. Since her husband had gone for Vipasana, one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation), my friend and I went to spend a few days with her sister.

Aanchal –my best friend also surprised us by taking us to this villa in Goa with our own private pool – one of my first times skinny-dipping!
Anyway have gone a bit astray with the story. Simrit, Aanchal’s sister was pregnant and she was glowing, looking more beautiful and radiant than ever before. Just the sight and sound of her belly gave me chills. And that’s where ‘birth of the brand’ came up.

 

 

It was the perfect collection for the start of a new brand as I was collaborating with another manufacturer at that time and was exclusively designing for them. As soon as I returned to Mumbai, I asked for a recording of her ultrasound and images of the sonogram. I then took prints in different sizes and proportions. And the collection started taking shape beautifully and smoothly; the patterns and prints all flowed into each other and every print seemed to have a story.

I went a little bolder and funkier with the silhouettes this time as it was the main launch, but playing with textures and fabrics is a passion of mine so even though a single piece took three whole days to make ,we worked on it to perfection. I met up with Simrit and baby Aeko a year later and we did a fun photo shoot and video with mom and baby wearing the same prints!
