In 2009, I finished my sojourn with Milano and returned to my base –Mumbai.
I worked for a bit under another designer and got my bearings re fashion in Mumbai. It was then time for the monsoon season, which is when I first decided to make a raincoat for myself!
What I did differently was construct the raincoat in the form of a dress, and that was it – the birth of Designer Rainwear in India. That meant two things: I was ready to launch a line of rainwear and I was going to be stuck to my roots for quite awhile.
There was a lot one could create in the rainwear genre. From bubble raincoats to the age-old reinvented trench, to the transparent and translucent ponchos.
I mixed and matched lining fabrics and accessories, to give the pieces a 3D effect.
It was one of a kind. I was invited to take part in several shows, events and promos. I was also invited to the unpredictably rainy city of London on a couple of occasions, to show my rainwear.
This resulted in new collaborations and other avenues opening up. I expanded my repertoire and launched designer rainwear for kids and dogs.
