The Tubki Resort – South GOA, India Trip

January 18, 2016

My first thought when I started designing clothes was swimwear – it’s been a lifelong vision to create a swimwear line. I believe that has to do with spending a lot of time in Goa. Since the age of two I have been religiously going to Goa every year with my family, which then of course stopped being a family holiday when my rebellious teens kicked in and it became more of a party getaway. Goa fashion is almost stringently restricted to resort and swimwear and, of course, hippie attire. The awesome part is that you get to see outfits and people from all over the globe. I was fortunate enough to actually launch my first swimwear collection last year! Roomauction.com gets to showcase the first image of the collection!

South Goa, here I come! I have just spent a chaotic weekend partying in the north, so heading to the south on a Monday morning was serious bliss for me. My cab ride took around an hour and a half and my driver Ranjeet kept me quite entertained most of the way, with his life stories.

I reached Tubki Resort and was immediately introduced to the Manager – Rembian, who very kindly offered me a pick of suites to stay in. The one major difference I noticed right away between the north and south was the silence- and I loved it!

Tubki Resort is also attached to Tubki apartments and the manager spoke to me about how a lot of people come for 3-4 months to enjoy the peace and quiet there. The room I stayed in was extremely capacious and comfortable. It had an adjoining balcony and overlooked the fields. The bathroom was spacious and spotless. The room had a TV, an enormous closet and a little dining area as well; it was more than comfortable for two people.

Tubki have their own restaurant and speedy room service. The restaurant has an outdoor and indoor seating arrangement. Undisputedly, the outdoor setting was more appealing, being set in a delightful garden atmosphere at the poolside. The pool itself is quite a decent size. I ordered prawn curry rice for lunch – a typical goan dish, which was actually quite different from the flavours I had had the chance to savour earlier in the north – it had less spice than the Goans usually douse their food with. The beach is literally a five-minute walk down from the hotel and there are many little clothing, accessory and souvenir stores along the way. The beaches in the south are immaculate, the sand is practically white and the water translucent. There are many typical goan shacks on the beach and I arrived just in time to gaze at a stunning sunset, while sipping on an orange juice. For dinner, I had masala squid with butter naan and a masala papad. Room service was extremely swift and efficient. I got some great undisturbed sleep.

In the morning, I went down to meet Rembian for coffee. I am truly grateful when restaurants have good coffee machines. Living in Italy for a few years spoiled me for want of great coffee and vino. Luckily I could check that off the list with Tubki, as I sat satisfied sipping my coffee while she explained the dynamics of the south to me.

Tubki is great as a family hotel and would do well for guests coming for a long-term stay. The hotel is 4 years old but looks brand new and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly! For anyone who is renting a car, bike etc. there is ample parking in and around the hotel. I would definitely recommend Tubki for an extended southern sojurn.

Last few tips for my fellow fashionistas who would like to do a bit of shopping in the south! BUNTI – a must visit boutique situated on the Palolem road dedicated to eco-friendly fabrics and traditional prints! In fact this place is known to have mostly handmade pieces. Another place to check out would be THE SPACE GOA – it is abundant in fun and funky clothes, as well as being an awesome place to lounge, drink and eat; also located between Palolem and Agonda.
